After an amazing year for The Addiction, I asked front man Adam for a quick chat about their year, and what’s to look forward to in 2020
As you all know by now I am HUGE fan of the addiction, and over the last few months since starting to write these “blogs” the guys have been nothing but supportive so before we get into it, I’d like to say Thankyou.
What was the driving force behind the change in name early this year?
It wasn’t so much a name change that it is a completely new band.
What I built over a couple of years with The Lost Days was brilliant and I’ll forever be grateful for what we achieved in that band, but in the end, the bigger picture wasn’t shared with all the members and I felt that I had to do something about it.
The Addiction is nothing like The Lost Days, the songs have more focus, the members are all on the same page and all have 100% belief in what we are doing. It’s the best thing I have ever done in music.
My Sweet Valentine had an amazing response, but how did it feel to top that when you released Cut the Wire?
I think Valentine gave Cut the Wire the platform to perform as well as it did.
We didn’t know what to expect with Valentine with it being our first release. But even so, we never thought that Cut the Wire would go to the top of the Amazon charts. It was an amazing feeling and reassuring that we’re doing the right thing.
What would you say was your achievement of the year?
Well, it’s really hard to pick one thing. We have achieved so much in such a short space of time. Landing a tour with Marco Mendoza without having publicly releasing any music was great and the tour was amazing.
We’ve been blessed that every show we have played has been tremendous. Winter Rocks was great too, sharing the bill with Skid Row and so many quality bands was very humbling.
What is your own personal highlight of the year?
I think the same answer as the last question to be honest. But as far as personally, I think it’s becoming very good friends with Marco Mendoza or Uncle Marco as I like to call him nowadays.
He’s such a wonderful human being and I’m very proud to call him a friend.
What does 2020 have in store for The Addiction and for the fans?
Bigger, better and more badass. We have some exciting news to share really soon. So keep an eye on our social media pages!
Does Marco Mendoza answer to “Uncle Marco”?🖤🖤🖤
Haha! Yes he does. It’s purely a term of endearment. He really does feel like a wise uncle that we look up to and call upon whenever we need advice, musically related or personally.
So yeah, ‘Uncle Marco’ just feels right. We’ve also come across some others while touring this year that we could call Uncle Nobhead, they won’t know who they are.
After an amazing year
Is there anything you would like to say to your fans/listeners?
Thank you! Just thank you, it’s been absolutely crazy. Without you, it’s pointless, we might as well just play in our bedrooms.
The constant knock backs you get in this business really can take it out of you mentally and if you’ve seen us perform live, physically too. It can make you feel like.. is it really worth it, you know? The stress and pressures financially and mentally will take their toll on anyone. So to see the response we have at the shows, you guys that have bought our merch and downloaded our songs, each one of those things just reminds you why we do this. So thank you, from the bottom of my heart on behalf of the rest of the band thank you ♥️
Any cheeky secret info you can give us about what to expect in 2020?
Let’s just say, we’re not settling for #2 on the rock charts.
Massive thankyou to Adam for taking the time out to do this. And a huge congratulations on an incredible 2019. It has been an absolute pleasure as a fan to watch you guys grow over the year and I am certainly looking forward to what 2020 has in store for you especially taking that number 1 spot
